Self in Black

Description written by Rebecca Nevins

“Sam made ‘Selfportrait, 2017’ as a form of self-reflection and an exploration into her identity. The  comprises a three-meter wallpaper display representing the physical appearance of clothing spread across her room, covering up and layering over the objects around it. For Sam, wearing black apparels gives her a feeling of covering and hiding something which makes her feel safe – signifying both her physical and mental spaces.”

48 pieces of  black clothing, translated onto a wallpaper and fabric.
